Meet Dr. Sakai

Dr. Sakai

Jeffrey M. Sakai, OD, MBA

Dr. Jeff Sakai was born and raised in Honolulu and attended Iolani School. He received his BS in Biology at the University of California at San Diego and went on to complete his doctorate in optometry at the University of California at Berkeley, where he was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.

Dr. Sakai has been practicing with Dr. Chris Yamamoto in Kalihi since 1998. He is therapeutically certified to treat ocular disease and emergencies and has a special interest in the treatment of glaucoma and dry eyes. He also participates in laser refractive surgery comanagement. He later studied at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he graduated with his MBA degree and was admitted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.

Dr. Sakai is heavily involved with community service and non-profit work. He routinely participates in vision screenings at schools and events such as the Special Olympics. He is currently the Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Sjogren’s and Lupus Foundation of Hawaii. He is also a past Board Chair for Lupus Hawaii, and a past board member of the following organizations: Hawaii Optometric Association, American Cancer Society- Honolulu Unit, and Shidler College of Business Alumni Association, He currently sits on the board of Edward Enterprises, Inc., a Kalihi printing company that was founded by his grandfather over 50 years ago. In 2008, Dr. Sakai was named the HOA’s Young Optometrist of the Year, in recognition of his community service and contribution to the optometric profession.
